ASUS VivoBook Key Replacement: X1502, X1402, M1502, and Every Supported Model

By Laptop-Keys.com Repair Team Published Last updated

ASUS VivoBook model numbers like X1502ZA, M1402, and K3504 look cryptic, but they are exactly what you need to order the right replacement key. VivoBook keyboards come in two layouts — a 14-inch keyboard with no number pad and a wider 15/16/17-inch keyboard that adds one — so the model number, not the marketing name, decides which key fits.

If one key cap is missing, cracked, or popped off and the rest of the keyboard still works, a single-key repair kit is usually all you need.

Find your exact VivoBook model number

Turn the laptop over and look at the sticker on the bottom cover. ASUS prints the full model string there, such as X1502ZA or M1402IA — the letters and numbers after the screen-size family are what separate one keyboard from another. In Windows, Settings → System → About → Device specifications or the MyASUS app can also show the model, but both sometimes display only the marketing name (“VivoBook 15”) instead of the full code. See the ASUS model identification guide if the sticker has worn off.

“VivoBook 15” by itself is too broad to order from — it covers dozens of model codes. Use the complete code from the sticker, then find that exact model below.

14-inch VivoBook: no number pad

The VivoBook 14, 14X, Go 14, S 14, and Pro 14 lines all use the same compact keyboard layout with no numeric keypad. Find your model and generation in the table below.

15, 16, and 17-inch VivoBook: adds a number pad

Every VivoBook 15, 15X, 16, 16X, 17, 17X, Go 15, and Pro 15/16X model we carry uses a wider keyboard that adds a number pad on the right, which changes the size and spacing of the keys along the right edge compared to the 14-inch layout above. Match the model below rather than assuming a key from a 15-inch VivoBook will fit a 14-inch one.

One key or the whole keyboard?

Replace an individual keyConsider full-keyboard service
One cap is missing, cracked, or looseMany unrelated keys stopped working together
One retainer clip is broken or keeps releasingAn entire row or column is electrically dead
One rubber cup is torn and neighboring keys workLiquid damage reached a broad area beneath the keys
The keyboard base and plastic mounts are intactBase mounts are torn out or the keyboard deck is bent

A single-key repair kit stays outside the laptop chassis and takes about five minutes with no tools. Kits for VivoBook models start at $7.95 and include the key cap, retainer clip, and rubber cup, so you do not have to diagnose which single piece failed before ordering.

How to replace a VivoBook key

  1. Power the laptop off and unplug it.
  2. Insert a plastic spudger or guitar pick under the bottom edge of the damaged cap and lift gently until the retainer releases.
  3. Remove any broken cap or clip pieces without dragging them across the rubber cup underneath.
  4. If the retainer clip came off with the old cap, snap it back onto the keyboard base posts, confirming all hooks are seated.
  5. Center the rubber cup in the key well, then press the new cap straight down over the retainer until it clicks evenly on both sides.
  6. Test the key. It should travel smoothly, spring back, and register once per press.

The space bar and other wide keys use a metal stabilizer bar and a slightly different sequence. Follow the model-specific installation instructions before removing a space bar, Enter, or Shift key.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace one key on a VivoBook myself?

Yes, when the keyboard base and mounting posts are intact and only the cap, retainer clip, or rubber cup is damaged. It is a five-minute repair with no tools once you have the kit matched to your exact model.

Does the VivoBook 15 use a different keyboard than the VivoBook 14?

Yes. The 14-inch VivoBook families use a compact keyboard with no number pad, while the 15, 16, and 17-inch families add a number pad and reflow the keys along the right edge. A key from one size will not fit the other.

Are VivoBook and VivoBook Pro keys interchangeable?

Do not assume so. Match the full model code shown on the bottom sticker — VivoBook, VivoBook X, Go, S, and Pro lines can use different keyboards even at the same screen size.
