The first step is identifying the MacBook precisely, especially when a listing says only “M1,” “M2,” “M3,” or “M4.”
Worn legend, missing cap, or a key that will not type?
These symptoms call for different checks. If the printed legend has worn away but the key still moves and types normally, the cap is the part you want to investigate. If a cap is missing, inspect the exposed hinge and mounting points before choosing the replacement.
A new cap does not fix every typing problem. A key that repeats characters, fails to register despite normal movement, or stopped working after liquid exposure needs diagnosis first. Avoid buying a cosmetic part to solve an electrical or software fault.

Check the key position and keyboard layout
Before checkout, compare the printed legend and the shape of the key. Return, Shift, and other keys can differ between regional layouts. Left and right modifier keys are separate positions, and small arrow keys require their own matching parts.
Space Bar and other wide keys may use stabilizer hardware. Touch ID and power-button faults also need separate assessment; do not treat those components as ordinary letter-key replacements. If your needed position is absent from the selector, contact us with the model and a photo instead of selecting a nearby key.
Order a replacement without guessing

- Compare the layout and any mechanism choices shown.
- Select the missing or worn key, then review the kit contents and current availability.

Shut the MacBook down before working on the mechanism. Do not pry off a working neighboring key for comparison, glue a cap onto its hinge, or force a part that will not align. Broken keyboard-base mounts or broader keyboard faults may require service beyond an individual key kit.
