How do I identify the correct EliteBook generation?
Check the full model name on the laptop's label or system information screen. Record both the model number and G-number: 830 G9 is a separate selection from 830 G10, and 860 is not the same model as 865. Keep the product number available if you need support identifying the keyboard configuration.
If the label is hard to read, follow the HP identification guide. Do not choose a model solely because its photo has the same screen size or key color.
Can I replace one EliteBook key instead of the keyboard?
Yes, when the damage is limited to the key's replaceable parts and the keyboard-base mounts are intact. A missing cap or visibly broken clip is a reason to inspect an individual-key repair. A key that moves normally but never registers needs diagnosis before ordering a cap.

Compare the displayed keyboard layout, printed legends, key position, and any retainer options. A cap that looks right from above may have the wrong attachment pattern underneath. Photograph the exposed damaged key area and the underside of a loose cap for comparison; do not dismantle a working key just to obtain a photo.

For wide keys, compare Enter and Shift shapes and any stabilizer arrangement. Select left and right modifiers separately. Regional layouts can differ, so a familiar model name does not replace checking the actual keyboard image.
Will an 830 key fit an 835, or an 860 key fit an 865?
